Wheeler's Track Team Laces Up For Their First Season
We absolutely love our partnership with the athletes and coaches at Wheeler Middle School. Principal Deserea Jackson and Athletic Director Stephen Drew have created a culture of encouragement where kids are given a safe place to learn and do their best both inside and outside the classroom.
The spring 2021 track season is in full swing and Wheeler's teams have been traveling around Oklahoma to compete in meets for the last two weeks! From Pauls Valley to Henryetta, these athletes are having a great time and even bringing home medals and trophies.
We caught up with Coach Drew to hear a bit more about what this season means to his athletes after their 2020 season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
"This is our school's first official track season," Coach Drew explained, "What I noticed at our practices was that most of my students were running in flat shoes with no support. They kept complaining about shin splints so I knew that i had to contact my friends at C4K. We were able to get to get them running shoes so that they could not only have something run in and be proud of, but also something to help take care of their bodies. As kids are growing a lot in middle school, it's important they have support so they can compete safely."
C4K was honored to help get this group ready to compete with running shoes through our Ready to Run program as well as team hoodies. We are so proud of this team and all they've accomplished so far during their first season. Check out photos of this amazing team practicing and competing this year below!
