The Simon Greiner Program Wraps Up It's Fourth Year!
The Simon Greiner Track & Field Program is one of C4K’s many programs that serve specific schools or focus on specific sports. It was started as a collaborative partnership between C4K, Fields & Futures, The Greiner Family and Red Coyote Running & Fitness to get more Oklahoma City Pubic School (OKCPS) kids involved in the sport of running. The program was started in memory of skilled runner Simon Greiner and celebrates what it means to be a great teammate and leader.
Since the program’s founding in 2017, we’ve served over 1,000 athletes with new running trainers, track spikes and socks to athletes in OKCPS. This year in particular, we were honored to work with the teams at nine high schools and four middle schoolers for a total of 351 athletes served. Participation has increased at many of these schools, with teams growing sometimes over 300%!
“Working with these athletes each season is really inspirational,” C4K’s Director of Operations Allyson Meyer explained. “We see them grow over the course of their running careers, and we are even seeing kids going on to run in college!”
This year, we had 31 state qualifiers and 7 athletes place in the top 5 at the State Championship Meet. This includes three state champions: Ryan McLaughlin, Harding Charter Prep (3200 meter event); Bryce Stephens, John Marshall High School (100 meter dash) and Damarion Harris, Southeast High School (200 meter dash). The entire staff and board of directors congratulate these students for their hard work this year. Celebrate these amazing athletes below with us!
“We are so thankful for our program partners who make the Simon Greiner program so successful,” said Allyson Meyer. “Because of their talents, more kids are able to get involved in the sport of running and unlock the power of sports!”
Stay tuned next Fall as the Simon Greiner Program starts its FIFTH YEAR!
