Over 200 XC Runners Equipped by Simon Greiner Program!
After an incredible busy start to the season, seven OKCPS cross country teams have been outfitted with brand new running shoes and spikes thanks to the Simon Greiner Track, Field & Cross-Country Program!
The Simon Greiner Program is now in its third year. What began as a way for The Greiner Family to honor the memory of their son Simon is now reigniting a passion for running in hundreds of high school athletes. It’s a truly collaborative program with Fields & Futures and Red Coyote Running & Fitness that supports these students as they move through the season. Since the beginning of this program, many of the high school programs have witnessed substantial growth in their programs. Boys’ cross-country programs have grown nearly 250% and girls’ programs have grown nearly 450% since 2016! C4K is so thankful for the partnerships and support that have made this growth possible.
After a whirlwind month of fittings, all of the new training shoes and spikes have now been distributed to the teams at Harding Charter Prep, John Marshall, Northwest Classen, US Grant, Jefferson Middle School, Roosevelt Middle School and Taft Middle School. Over 200 runners are now practicing and competing in shoes that will help keep them safe and do their best. The distribution events featured special speakers as well as a presentation from Red Coyote running professionals who taught the runners the best way to lace and take care of their new shoes.
